The Legal Bits
Accreditation is only awarded to those schemes whose walks comply to Walking for Health standards of best practice. To achieve this award all walks must be under 90 minutes in duration and ideally one hour or less. In addition they must not be more than 3 miles. Walks must be free at the point of delivery and they must be in an urban setting on well made paths rather than out on the moors on rough paths. There must be a leader and a back marker, and enough leaders in-between to keep all walkers safe. Walkers must be able to travel at speed that is comfortable for them whatever their level of ability and must never be made to feel pressured into 'keeping up with the leader'. At some locations more than one walk will be provided in order to accommodate the different abilities of their walkers.
