Step out Sheffield
Lowedges Health Walk

Thursdays 10.30am: meeting in Gresley Road meeting rooms.

Our easy walk is in Greenhill Park, Lowedges, a short walk from our meeting point. Greenhill Park is pretty level and the paths are well-surfaced tarmac. It is a wheelchair friendly park and over the years a number of people have accompanied the walkers in their mobility scooters. There are plenty of benches, and whilst we encourage our walkers to go as far as they can comfortably walk, we don't mind them pausing to take in the view and enjoy a natter, especially on a sunny day!

Ours is very much a social group. People start to gather for the walk from about 10:15 so they can have a chat before they walk. After the walk, which for some lasts 40 minutes and for others only for 15 or 20, the conversations continue over refreshments.

This health walk was the first in South West Sheffield and has been running since October 2003. In May 2005 it became a constituted group which means it has a chairman, a treasurer, a secretary and a bank account. Monies raised (from weekly subscriptions and grant awards) are spent on outings, and social gatherings.

Like all other health walks in Sheffield, the Lowedges walk is free. However, everyone puts £1 in the pot each time they attend. This covers the cost of refreshments and subsidises trips.

Bad weather policy: if conditions are icy underfoot we do not walk. On rainy Thursday mornings you can walk if you wish, or, having walked to Gresley Road meeting rooms, you may leave your brolly in the entrance hall and simply stop for coffee!

Buses: 24, 25, 87 and M17. The nearest bus stop is almost on the junction of Lowedges Road and Gresley Road.
